About Amy McKnight

Amy McKnight is a Licensed Natural Hair Care Specialist, Loctician, and Dreadlock Artist living in Lexington, North Carolina.

She specializes in hard-to-lock hair types, instant loc, and loc extension installations, and interlock loc installation and maintenance. She creates customized lock installation and maintenance plans based on her client’s lifestyles, hair types, and ultimate goals for having locs.

She has had natural locks or worn some type of faux loc style on and off for over 20 years. She was an editor and the main contributor for MyNHCG.com, formally NaturalHairCareGuide.com, where she wrote dozens of articles on locs and hair locking.

Amy has done hair on and off as a side business for over a decade. When she learned that licensing is required to do hair in North Carolina, where she resides, she returned to school to get the required certification. She then opened a state-licensed 2-chair salon, OOAK & Bespoke Natural Hair Salon.

Before making the career switch to entirely focus on loc care, she taught creative rigid heddle weaving on and offline. She enjoys fiber arts and yarn crafting and loves being able to bring that background into what she does with her clients.

She is the author of two books on locked hair, "Freedom In Locs" and "Dreadful Beauty"

She and her husband Conrad own a successful computer repair and sales business. She worked there for ten years before switching careers to open her salon.
